Mass Suicide in Kenya

Conservationists are calling last weeks mass suicide "heartbreaking" after 10,000 wildebeests drowned themselves. Wildebeest expert Terilyn Lemaire attributed the deaths to a seasonal migration, which has historically triggered suicides on a smaller scale, rarely exceeding 1,000. The tragedy took place during the group's ritual river-crossing, when the leader wildebeest is said to have chosen a "particularly treacherous crossing point."

None of the remaining one million wildebeest could be reached for comment.
